"...deserves to be known as one of the greatest documentaries of all time" - CriterionCast
"A piece of history of immense power" - The Los Angeles Times
KING: A FILMED RECORD; MONTGOMERY TO MEMPHIS is the critically acclaimed, landmark documentary that chronicles the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., from the beginnings of the Civil Rights movement in Montgomery, Alabama, and culminating with his assassination in Memphis in 1968. The film combines dramatic readings by Harry Belafonte, James Earl Jones and Paul Newman, among others, with newsreel and archival footage to create a powerful and comprehensive record of Dr. King's legacy and the American Civil Rights movement. It is an incredible testimony to the power of courage and non-violence.
Initially released in theaters across America as a one-time-only event in 1970, KING: A FILMED RECORD - recently restored in association with the Library of Congress and preserved in the National Film Registry - is coming back to the silver screen. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech, bring KING: A FILMED RECORD to your community! Learn more about how to host HERE.
